Magic and Fire
04:16
|
|||
we arrived, we arrived on time
with scenes from the night and smiles spoiled with magic and fire
you go tell them we’re gunning, you go tell them we’re gunning for the wild
tell our beds and our cousins, we won’t be back for nothing in a while
take me home, it’s where my heart is
don’t let me go, we’ve gone to far
tie down the load, it’s all we’ve got
ferry me boys, ferry me boys
strange in a new suit, stare at the new you in your place
you bought the bargain, laced up in garments every way
this isn’t what I wanted, this isn’t what I wanted for us darlings
sell all your boots and bottoms, trade in your coats for commerce
pay the way
take me home, it’s where my heart is
don’t let me go, we’ve gone to far
tie down the load, it’s all we’ve got
ferry me boys, ferry me boys
take me home, it’s where my heart is
we’ll make it I’m sure, we’ll cross the pond
we’ll tie down this load, it’s all we’ve got
ferry me boys, ferry me boys

Nothing in Return
03:43
|
|||
woman, lets promise to never be apart
I said woman, I promise I’ll give you my heart
and I don’t want nothing in return
no I don’t want nothing in return
I said so long, to all my friends I lived with in the fall
they said to “fuck off, when you’re gone we won’t miss you at all”
and I can’t help thinking about those words
cause you’ll give me nothing in return
but I guess I’m never gonna love, if I’m never gonna hurt
run run run to the wedding reception, arriving with my shaky head
I got a picture with the bride and a tie to hang around my neck
everyone was talking but nobody was dancing, wasting all the money spent
I twirled around by myself, I sipped my flask into the song I went
hold out both your hands and show me what you have
because it won’t last, once its gone it’s never coming back
and I don’t want nothing in return
no I don’t want nothing
run run run to the dock where they’re leaving, sparkelers in every hand
they entered a canoe and then they paddled to the other end
headed back now to a big television, wondering how longs its been
cause I loved her from the start, and I loved her everywhere I went
everywhere I went
I got a phone call from another town, but you said you don’t belong in the underground
I said it won’t be long it’s just a turn around I’m trying to get me on my feet
the last things gone were the trees, they faded into towers above the streets
the poles on the sides had no leaves, just the wires where you talk to me
it’s through the wires
it’s through the wires
it’s through the wires where you talk to me

Forty Bells
05:31
|
|||
so far you’re warm dressed, coat on that blistex
it’s cold in there tonight, you’ll make it to the light
making all your lists and cutting out the difference
I hear them in my mind, I hear them all the time
forty bells, forty bells are ringing are singing
forty bells, forty bells I’m leaving, forty bells I’m gone
but you’ve forgotten more than I, oh you’ve forgotten more than I
will ever know about this place, move onto a brand new space
through the fence behind the cars, Christmas lights on chain link walls
you’ve found yourself a place to call a home away from home that’s all
and maybe all we need is love, maybe all we need is love for ourselves
when maybe all we want is more, more more more more I want it all to myself.
the childhoods we’re leaving, the neighborhoods we dreamed in
there’s a change I still believe in, it’s strange I still have hope
we’re caught up in the breeze with all the nobodies
oh Ryan help me please
forty bells, forty bells I hear them coming at the beat of my hand
but you’ve forgotten more than I, oh you’ve forgotten more than I
will ever know about this place, move onto a brand new space
through the fence behind the cars, Christmas lights on chain link walls
you’ve found yourself a place to call a home away from home that’s all
maybe all we want is more, maybe all we want is more for ourselves.
when maybe all we need is love, come on love come on come on come on what happened to you
it’s hard for me to cope and understand who I was and who I am.

Lakeside Trust
03:49
|
|||
I could barely touch, I wasn’t brave enough
you know I didn’t know much but something’s on its way to wreck the bunch
forgetting who he was, forgetting who I was
moving to the lakeside, trust that everyday we rise you’ll be with us
we found an old pontoon in a clear view
it was my way out but I never found out how to make it move
forgetting who she was, forgetting who I was
moving to the ocean trust that she is coming back to rise with us
we took a ride that night, my father drived
we were looking for life and better times
There was a fire
at the corer of Coming and Bogard
get down to the wire
little baby is finding cover in the car
brother fire please be kind
god made you strong and beautiful and bright
raise the dirt, little structures we try
I’m older now
I don’t want to live here anymore
the chimneys are blocked off and I was counting on your world
slowing up before we rise, I’ll hold onto the light
There was a fire
at the corer of Coming and Bogard
get down to the wire
little baby is finding cover in his heart
There was a fire
at the corer of Coming and Bogard
get down to the wire
only lovers find each other in the dark

Days of our Youth
04:14
|
|||
Why should I be good, when he is not
why should I get territory rights when nothing here is mine
why shouldn’t I loathe my mind
cause I am not as far along as I would like
I watched your body bloom, it grew into you right
Lets go back to see the view
olive skin embracing all of you
in the days of our youth
growing up growing up wild and letting loose.
Why should I be good, when he is not
why should I get territory rights when nothing here is mine
why should I get on my mind
cause I am not as far along as I would like
I watched your body bloom, it grew into you right
Lets go back to see the view
olive skin embracing all of you
in the days of our youth
growing up growing up wild and letting loose.
There’s a sad story growing
but you don’t want to know it
Lets go back to see the view
olive skin embracing all of you
in the days of our youth
growing up growing up wild and letting loose.

Grandad
03:25
|
|||
Looking over at the wheels of my stroller
I fell hard on the street
screaming bloody murder is my first memory
I was scooped up in the arms of an old man
who was terrified for me
he was my mothers step father and I was his buddy
I had a rollercoaster in my grandad’s backyard
it might not have been much but it meant the world to me
hooked my wagon to the back of his tractor and we went round and round and round
looking kind of crazy but he did it just for me
I was the first born when he joined the union and the first child of three
eighteen year old mother in a Christian family
my mama really tried to be happy, but my father couldn’t stop the drink
one morning in the front seat moving to another street
I had a rollercoaster in my grandad’s backyard
it might not have been much but it meant the world to me
hooked my wagon to the back of his tractor and we went round and round and round
looking kind of crazy but he did it just for me

Cooper River Night
03:34
|
|||
She let on that the moment was wrong and that timing is the purpose
we got gone when the timing was right and the moment was before
held our breathe till we sank down to the bottom so our bodies wouldn’t surface
and we stayed down below for a minute or so until I could not hold onto her anymore
it was a cooper river night
it was a cooper river night
we ditched the cars and rode our bikes
to watch the ships sail out of sight
it was a cooper river night
I was waiting for cops cause you never came to the top for your air
and I hoped that you rose on some doc down the cove because you had forgotten me there
it was a cooper river night
it was a cooper river night
we ditched the cars and rode our bikes
I would have done anything that you liked, but I just couldn’t hold it
but what makes it worse is that I dared you first and you never thought to think twice
it was a cooper river night
it was a cooper river night

Living in a Country
04:03
|
|||
Now I’m older, I don’t feel young
this far horizon setting in the sun
this city is beneath me
living in a country
where everybody likes thinking they’re the only
one alone
Someone’s in the house sneaking up below me
someone’s in the car out there waiting for me
someone on the phone tell me that you love me
cause someone’s in the house sneaking up below me
It’s getting closer, to the hopes we hold
but we’re losing all the ones that we love the most
so what will still be left, when everyone is dead
the things I should have done, the things I should have said
I’m not alone when the souls have all grown in my home
Someone’s in the house sneaking up below me
someone’s in the car out there waiting for me
someone on the phone tell me that you love me
cause someone’s in the house sneaking up below me

Foxes and Dogs
04:04
|
|||
I had cold feet, the house was sound asleep
the floorboards laughed with one another through the creeks
it’s just another quid pro, you crashed in the ghetto
you had the proof on both your knees.
you really worried us last year
you really worried us last year
hold the ice, hold the ice oh the well will do
civilized sacrifice when nobody knew
that foxes and dogs play too
that I will come back for you
I’ve made it passed the ozarks, I’ve seen inside of rail cars,
I made my way to denmark to chase romance that I lost
This city needs a savior, I’ll be there to save her
finding my way without a spark
hold the ice, hold the ice oh the well will do
it’s a civilized sacrifice when nobody knew
that foxes and dogs play too
that I will come back for you
try to become what you are not if this holy roller has your heart
see past all the lies we’re taught
the slow of the breeze the rotating seasons the last time we’ll see an ocean at ease
but the mountain is all I want
the climb is only the start
oh the lies in the lines that we crossed
but I wont become what I am not
hold the ice, hold the ice oh the well will do
it’s a civilized sacrifice when nobody knew
that foxes and dogs play too
that I will come back for you
oh foxes and dogs play too
and I will come back for you

Last Gold Rush
03:59
|
|||
you were only seventeen when you said you had a painting just for me
you stretched the canvas over everything, soaked up the darkness in a light I’d never seen
our shadows cast two subtle signs of hope, two parallels that stretched on down the road
but I lost you somewhere between the streets, and I found you by the ocean in the spring
if I’m going to die here then I don’t want to fight it
I’ll give up the ghost while I’m running through the kindness in the woods
you go run the length of this whole town, shake off the demons don’t let the silence get to loud
you said I told you babe to be ready for the last gold rush,
cause I’ll leave with out you but I don’t want to ruin us
the books, the blinds, the bunch, the bonfires of vanities and such
don’t let me down, don’t let me down
if I’m going to die here then I don’t want to fight it
I’ll give up the ghost while I’m running in the kindness of the woods
the shelter and the silence the lonely days behind us
I found my cover in the presence of the kindness in the woods
